CAP, DE CASTRO: A SUCCESS FOR UE PARLIAMENT

de-castro-tagliata21The European Parliament has reduced the amendments to the Common Agricultural Policy after 2013 from over 7,600 to less than one hundred. "Our speakers did a great job", says the chairman of the Agriculture Committee of the EU Parliament, Paolo De Castro. "I hope that when we vote - on 23 and 24 January - there will be a large majority”. After that the Council and the Commission have to decide. And then everything will be "negotiated." "We discussed like if Von Rompuy’s proposal didn’t exist”, says De Castro. The Commission proposal “is far from what Van Rompuy said before the negotiation had fail. The first proposal involved a cut of 25 percent, the other one a cut of17 percent. "It 's clear – De Castro explains – that the final vote depends on the financial perspectives. If the budget changes, everything will be questioned”.
