Olive-2Unaprol is working to protect the true extra virgin Italian olive oil around the world. There was a summit with representatives of INEA, Ismea, Department of Quality of Ministry of Agricolture and Ice, Agency for the internationalization of the made in Italy with representatives of USTIC, the commission of the foreign trade of the United States of America and the agriculture service of the U.S. Embassy in Rome for an exchange of views on controls and anti-counterfeiting measures in the oil sector. The meeting is part of a regular exchange of information to improve trade relations between Italy and the U.S. main market for the export of made in Italy oil. According to data provided by Unaprol in Italy in 2012 were sold a total of about 218milioni liters of oil for a value of € 850milioni, the best-selling category is the virgin "conventional" representing the 72% of sales. For each category there is a stable market for the volume (+1%), and a slight decline in value (-1%) compared to 2011.

There was a slight increase in the volumes for Dop (+1%) and stability for value. The positive trend covers both volumes and values (respectively +1% and +3). This trend points out that the conventional extra virgin is subjected to a strong promotional pressure that satisfies a mass demand. Regarding the trade balance in the first six months of 2012 Italian import fell by 10% in volume with a saving of 17% compared to the same period of 2011. In the first half of 2012 Exports stood at 200,996 tonnes and has recorded a 1% increase in volume, a decrease in revenue of 2%. Talking about the average costs, in Italy to produce a kilo of extra virgin olive oil costs € 5.80 to the Centre and North, € 3.53 in Puglia, Calabria and € 3.64 in 4.67 in Sicily.
